the sketchbox

On my last trip to Sackville to attend a presentation on financial planning for the artist (see previous post) I took time to make a couple of small oil sketches of the immediate area. In cold weather (and given my intolerance for cold temperature) I have a small box containing all the necessary equipment, which is always in the back of the car.

It’s not necessary to find the perfect romantic motif for landscape painting. In fact I find it more satisfying to extract truth from environmental studies. Perhaps the pursuit of the beautiful must include a dose of irony.
